Reno Jazz Festival 2012 PDF Print E-mail

Music students from the Calabasas High School Jazz bands performed and participated at the Reno Jazz Festival this past weekend.

The festival, which celebrated its 50th year, is held at the University of Nevada Reno campus and attended by over 9,000 students.

 

 

CHS Music Program participants received the following awards:

  • CHS Jazz A Band placed third in their division out of 15 bands.
    The Jazz B Band placed 4th in their division of 15 bands
  • CHS Jazz Combo placed 5th in their division out of 18 combos.


Outstanding musicianship awards were awarded to the following students:

  • Jazz A Band - Michael Aspinwall (piano), Michael Tsang (saxophone), Russel Muller and Ryan Chen (guitar)
  • Jazz B Band - Mauriciio Guerrero (guitar), Jeremy Goldberg (saxophone), Kelsey Bergh (piano), Jarrod Schnapper (vibes)
  • Jazz Black Band - Rebecca Wilder (saxophone), Josh Gellerman (trumpet), Sean Poole (trumpet), Patrick Poole (trombone), Ben Lewis (drums).
  • Jazz Combo - Jeremy Goldberg (saxophone), James Martinez (saxophone), Russell Muller and Mauricio Guerrero (guitar), Chase Lancaster and Elijah Martinez (drums and vibes), Nick Rosario (trombone), Isaac Pariser (bass)

CHS Music Program Win Top 11 Awards at Heritage Music Festival - Washington DC PDF Print E-mail

We are proud to share that our talented music students performed extremely well at the Heritage Music Festival in Washington D.C. yesterday!  Our Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Vivace and Maestoso are returning to Calabasas with 11 top awards:

In each of their categories, Wind Ensemble won the Gold 2nd award, Orchestra won the Gold award, Vivace won Gold 2nd, and Maestoso won the Gold award.

We won the Instrumental Sweepstakes Award, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and Vivace won the Adjudicators' Award, and our Orchestra won the Outstanding Orchestra trophy above all competing orchestras.

Daniel Mogtaderi won Outstanding Soloist for his violin solo and Dillon Greene won Outstanding Soloist for his part on the bassoon.

Congratulations to all our music students on a job well done.  All of your hard work truly paid off and you made CHS proud!

Being part of the CHS Music Program brings students the opportunity to participate in competitions and festivals.  This Spring 2012, several of our ensembles will be traveling to Washington DC.

Ensembles include Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Vivace, and Maestoso.

If your student is participating, payment can be made to CHS Music Program.  Due dates are as follows:  October 10, November 7, December 5 and January 3rd.

Please join us at our Winter Music Concerts on Wednesday, December 7 & Thursday, December 8 at 7:00 pm in the Theater.

December 7 will feature Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Jazz B, Jazz Workshop, Maestoso, Unstrumental and Percussion Ensemble.

December 8 will feature Jazz A, Jazz Black, Jazz Workshop, Vivace, Harmony and Unstrumental.

Ticket pre-sales will be on Friday, December 2 and Monday, December 5 at lunchtime in front of the Music Building. Each student may only purchase 3 tickets on the pre-sale days.

Open ticket sales will be held on Tuesday, December 6.

Tickets are $7.00 General Admission.

You may purchase tickets at the door, if available, for $10.00.
